This briefing was organized to explain the necessity and main implementation plans for the Pohang Gyeongju Airport area aviation obstacle maintenance project, and to gather residents' opinions.
With the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit scheduled for 2025, the city is carrying out a project to maintain trees around the airport that could pose a threat to aircraft safety during takeoff and landing.
The target area is the slope of Indeoksan Mountain adjacent to the airport runway, where the city plans to systematically remove and manage trees in the designated section to ensure the safety of aircraft operations.
Local residents who attended the briefing agreed on the necessity of tree maintenance for airport safety and expressed their intention to actively cooperate with the city to ensure the smooth progress of the project.
Shin Kangsoo, head of Pohang City’s Green City Project Division, stated, "This tree maintenance project is a key initiative to ensure the safety of Pohang Gyeongju Airport. We will fully incorporate residents' opinions to minimize inconvenience during the process." He added, "As the airport serves as the gateway to the city, we will continue to communicate and cooperate with residents to enhance the city’s image and ensure the successful hosting of international events."
In addition to this tree maintenance project, Pohang City plans to simultaneously carry out various infrastructure improvements, including maintenance of airport access roads and the surrounding environment, using the successful hosting of the APEC Summit as an opportunity to elevate the city's status and lay the foundation for regional development.
