"We will make an official announcement as soon as the resumption is confirmed"
"Not tourists, but partners related to the Rason tourism business"
Goryeo Tours, a travel agency based in China, announced that it has obtained unofficial information indicating that tourism to Rason in North Korea is expected to resume soon.
On June 20, Goryeo Tours stated on its website?while emphasizing that this is an "unofficial notice"?that it had heard on June 16 that the Rason border would be opened to certain Chinese passport holders.
Goryeo Tours explained that the individuals concerned are "those seeking to develop cooperative relationships related to the Rason tourism business, rather than tourists."
Assessing these developments as a positive sign for the resumption of Rason tourism, Goryeo Tours added, "We hope the border will reopen soon, and as soon as the resumption of Rason tourism is confirmed, we will make an official announcement regarding this."
At the end of February, North Korea opened the Rason Special Tourist Zone to Western group tourists, but abruptly suspended it in less than a month.
