National Policy Planning Committee: "Food Support for Vulnerable Groups Needed Through 1,000-Won Breakfast" Yonhap News

The National Policy Planning Committee, which serves as the transition team for President Lee Jaemyung, stated on June 19 through a briefing from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, "The government must significantly strengthen food support for vulnerable groups through the '1,000-Won Breakfast' program and agri-food vouchers, and fundamentally improve the distribution structure so that it benefits both producers and consumers."

On this day, the Economic Division 2 of the National Policy Planning Committee, during the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' briefing, called for agriculture and rural communities to play a more proactive role in supporting basic income for rural residents and expanding renewable energy. The committee also requested the identification of policy tasks that can be felt in the field, such as the maintenance and utilization of vacant rural homes and rural transportation models.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs reported on the stabilization of supply and demand for major agricultural products, the development of agriculture as a future strategic industry in response to the climate crisis, and the fostering of rural areas as hubs for balanced national development and energy transition. In particular, discussions were held on ways to implement pledges such as strengthening food security, establishing an advanced income and disaster safety net, and creating rural areas where people want to live.

Lee Choonseok, head of Economic Division 2, said, "The government needs to consider improving the rice industry, farmland, and the agricultural cooperative system, as well as strengthening the public sector's role in disaster response." He also urged efforts to ensure that the new government's policy agenda includes the policies necessary for the development of agriculture and rural communities.
