Chonnam National University announced on June 19 that Kim Yanghyun, Vice President for Academic Affairs and professor in the Department of Philosophy, donated 10 million KRW to improve the educational environment of the College of Humanities.
The donation ceremony, held that day in the reception room on the fifth floor, was attended by President Lee Geunbae; Cho Jinhyung, Director of External Cooperation; Lee Yongkyun, Director of Academic Affairs; Lee Yoonseong, Director of Research; Jeong Nanhee, Director of Student Affairs; Park Hyunjae, Director of the General Affairs Office; Park Hyeongkyu, Deputy Director of External Cooperation; Kim Taewan, Dean of the College of Humanities; and Kang Eunyoung, Associate Dean of the College of Humanities.
Vice President Kim graduated from the Department of Philosophy at Chonnam National University in 1987, earned his master's degree at the same university, and received his Ph.D. from the University of M?nster in Germany. Since 1999, he has served as a professor in the Department of Philosophy, mentoring numerous students, and since February this year, he has overseen university administration as Vice President for Academic Affairs, striving to help Chonnam National University become a globally renowned institution.
As a professor in the Department of Philosophy and a member of the College of Humanities, he has long shown interest in the aging facilities of the College of Humanities and decided to make this donation to contribute to the creation of a more comfortable learning environment. With this latest donation, his cumulative contributions have reached a total of 35 million KRW. The donated funds will be used to improve the educational environment and support student initiatives at the College of Humanities.
Vice President Kim stated, "The College of Humanities buildings are generally quite old, and with new buildings currently under construction, I decided to donate in hopes that it would be of some help. I hope that students of the College of Humanities will be able to study in a pleasant environment in this space, fostering their creativity and humanities-based competencies."
President Lee Geunbae said, "I believe that the vitality of the College of Humanities is essential to the university as a whole. I deeply appreciate Vice President Kim Yanghyun for making such a meaningful donation."
