"Earn 1 Million Won a Day Removing Watermelon Seeds"... What Is This Unprecedented Part-Time Job?

JobKorea and Albamon Launch Virtual Experience Event
Selected Participants to Receive "1 Million Won Daily Wage"

A fictional and unique part-time job posting, created for the summer season, is drawing attention online.

On June 18, JobKorea and Albamon announced that they are launching a promotional campaign in collaboration with Ediya Coffee, featuring virtual recruitment ads for the "Albamon Watermelon Seed Remover" and the "Watermelon Seedless Gourmet Researcher."

This event is not an actual recruitment but a virtual experience campaign themed around the popular summer beverage "watermelon juice." The campaign is designed to let participants experience the effort that Ediya Coffee franchise owners and mates (Ediya Coffee part-timers) put into making the drink by sampling watermelon juice. According to Ediya Coffee, watermelon juice is one of the most frequently ordered menu items and also the most labor-intensive, requiring extensive work from seed removal to fruit processing. Since its launch in April, sales surpassed 300,000 cups in just ten days.

Selected participants will be tasked with sharing their unique part-time job experience on social networking services (SNS). They will also receive a daily wage of 1 million won and a mobile voucher for Ediya Coffee's watermelon juice. Applications can be submitted online through the "Watermelon Gourmet Researcher" posting on JobKorea and the "Albamon Watermelon Seed Remover" posting on Albamon. Preferred qualifications include those whose favorite summer fruit is watermelon, those who are persistent and see things through to the end, those who want to excel at any interview or test, and those who always remove seeds from all fruits before eating.

Although this is a virtual experience event, participants will also receive practical gifts tailored to the actual tasks. The "Albamon Watermelon Seed Remover" will receive a daily wage of 1 million won and a whole watermelon for seed removal. The "Watermelon Gourmet Researcher" will receive a mobile voucher for watermelon juice to share with colleagues and friends. The lead researcher will be awarded a daily wage of 1 million won and five cups of watermelon juice. Fifty regular researchers will each receive three cups. Additionally, 100 applicants who were not selected will be chosen by lottery to receive a mobile voucher for watermelon juice.

An Ediya Coffee representative stated, "We prepared this event so that participants can enjoy Ediya Watermelon Juice in a unique way during the hot summer," and added, "We hope it will be a special experience where people can feel refreshed energy while drinking Ediya Watermelon Juice."

Meanwhile, such unique recruitment events have recently been highlighted in the marketing industry as a promotional strategy that simultaneously enhances brand image and encourages consumer participation. In particular, the strategy of spreading through SNS reviews is considered more effective at creating a natural viral effect than simple advertising, delivering both a sense of familiarity and fun with the brand through voluntary participation.
