Strengthening Agricultural Infrastructure for Disaster Prevention in Response to Climate Change
Support for Livestock Farms Affected by Wildfires: New Construction and Reconstruction Assistance
20 Billion KRW Allocated to Support Small and Medium-Sized Food Companies for 'Price Stabilization'
The government has allocated an additional supplementary budget of 186 billion KRW for the agricultural and food sector to respond to the climate crisis, including increasingly frequent heavy rainfall, as well as to support recovery from the wildfires that occurred in North Gyeongsang and South Gyeongsang Provinces in March this year. To stabilize processed food prices, an additional 20 billion KRW will be provided to small and medium-sized food companies.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on June 19, 2025, that it has drawn up a total supplementary budget of 186.2 billion KRW for the second round of this year.
An official from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs stated, "The government as a whole focused on stabilizing people's livelihoods and revitalizing the economy in formulating the supplementary budget. The Ministry has reflected a total of six projects, amounting to 186.2 billion KRW, focusing on strengthening disaster prevention capabilities of agricultural facilities in response to climate change, alleviating price burdens, and stabilizing the management of livestock farms."
First, the government will invest 143.8 billion KRW, which accounts for 77% of the Ministry's total supplementary budget, in facility investments for agricultural disaster prevention. To preemptively prevent damage to farmland caused by leakage and collapse due to the aging of agricultural water facilities, and to strengthen disaster prevention capabilities against droughts and floods, an additional 81.6 billion KRW will be invested in the "Water Facility Renovation Project," focusing on urgently needed repairs of agricultural water facilities such as water sources and irrigation/drainage channels.
An additional 25 billion KRW will be allocated to the "Drainage Improvement Project," which aims to expand drainage channels and maintain drainage stations, particularly in farmland areas prone to frequent flooding. Through these measures, the government plans to minimize crop damage caused by farmland flooding during heavy rainfall and to strengthen the foundation for cultivating alternative crops in paddy fields.
The Ministry will also allocate an additional 15 billion KRW to the "National and Local Managed Seawall Renovation Project" to strengthen the infrastructure against typhoons and tidal waves. Repairs and reinforcements will focus on aging or high-risk seawalls among those protecting low-lying coastal farmland under national management.
To prepare for severe and frequent droughts, 22.2 billion KRW will be additionally allocated to the "Rural Water Development Project" for the development of water sources and installation of water pipelines to ensure a stable supply of agricultural water. This is intended to minimize crop damage even during droughts.
The government will also allocate 22.4 billion KRW to support livestock farm facilities. This funding will be added to the "Livestock Facility Modernization (Loan) Project" to support the rebuilding or renovation of livestock barns damaged in the special disaster zones of Gyeonggi Province due to heavy snowfall last winter and North Gyeongsang and South Gyeongsang Provinces due to wildfires in March this year, as well as to improve laying hen facilities for stable egg supply and to help livestock farms return to normal operations quickly.
The supplementary budget also includes support for small and medium-sized food companies to stabilize food prices. To reduce production costs for small and medium-sized agricultural and food businesses and contribute to stabilizing processed food prices, an additional 20 billion KRW will be provided to the "Comprehensive Food and Dining Fund (Loan)" to encourage small and medium-sized food companies that use domestic agricultural products as processing ingredients to lower or freeze their product prices.
