On June 19, the governors and mayors of the Chungcheong region held a breakfast meeting and agreed to jointly respond to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries issue currently facing Sejong City. Until now, Sejong City had been raising its voice alone, but they have now decided to respond together.
Minho Choi, Mayor of Sejong, told Asia Economy in a phone interview, "It has been a long time since the Chungcheong region governors and mayors last had a breakfast meeting, so it was good to meet again after a while. As the new administration takes office and policy directions change, we agreed to respond jointly for the development and interests of the Chungcheong region."
He added, "We have resolved to respond together to the current issues of the Chungcheong region under the Lee Jaemyung administration. Rather than each local government responding separately to their own issues, we should respond together as one."
This can be interpreted as an indication that, with the local elections scheduled for next year under the Democratic Party administration, the Chungcheong region should unite.
Clockwise: Kim Younghwan, Governor of Chungbuk; Kim Taehum, Governor of Chungnam; Choi Minho, Mayor of Sejong; Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon.
