On the 18th (local time), POSCO Group announced that Chairman Jang unveiled the group's strategy to strengthen its global leadership at the "Global Steel Dynamics Forum" in New York, USA. This forum, hosted by World Steel Dynamics (WSD), a global steel industry analysis agency, is one of the largest events in the industry, attended by over 500 CEOs and officials from major steel companies worldwide. During the event, Chairman Jang stated, "POSCO aims to become a world-class future materials company through the development of AI-based intelligent factories and hydrogen reduction steelmaking technology."
On the same day, POSCO Holdings held a ceremony to mark its permanent induction into the WSD Hall of Fame, becoming the first global steel company to receive this honor. POSCO Holdings has been ranked first in WSD's "World's Most Competitive Steelmaker" evaluation for 15 consecutive years since 2010, earning this distinction. Chairman Jang remarked, "Maintaining the number one position in global steel competitiveness for 15 years is thanks to the dedication of all employees," and added, "This induction into the Hall of Fame is a symbol that the global steel industry recognizes POSCO's competitiveness."
On June 17, the day before the forum, Chairman Jang also attended a roundtable hosted by The Korea Society, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Korea-US cooperation. The event was attended by key figures from both countries, including Kathleen Stephens, former US Ambassador to Korea; Thomas Byrne, Chairman; Jay Lee, Distinguished Professor at the University of Maryland; and Mark Menezes, President of the US Energy Association. Chairman Jang emphasized, "As geopolitical uncertainties grow, it is crucial to strengthen cooperation in the steel, secondary battery materials, and energy sectors." He also stressed, "We must enhance the reliability and competitiveness of the manufacturing industry through large-scale industrial knowledge models (ILKM) that combine AI technology with industrial expertise."
POSCO Group is accelerating the digital transformation of its manufacturing sites through AI, robotics, and automation. In particular, the company is focusing on automating high-risk and non-standard processes to simultaneously achieve greater productivity and safety.
