President Trump made these remarks while speaking to reporters at the White House on this day, saying, "No one knows what I will do to Iran."

He added, "What I can say is that Iran is facing major problems and wants to negotiate," and described Iran as "defenseless."

When asked whether Iran had made contact to negotiate, President Trump responded, "Yes," and added, "I told them it was very late." However, he also stated, "Nothing is ever too late," leaving open the possibility of negotiations with Iran.

Previously, President Trump had shortened his schedule at the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Canada by one day and returned to the United States in a hurry. The following day, he convened a National Security Council (NSC) meeting at the White House that lasted about one hour and twenty minutes. He discussed the situation involving clashes between Israel and Iran and the possible U.S. responses. U.S. media reported that scenarios discussed included directly striking Iran's nuclear facilities using U.S. military forces or intervening in the conflict by increasing military support to Israel. However, the outcome of the meeting has not yet been disclosed.
