Jeonnam Office of Education and Korea-Africa Foundation Join Hands for Glocal Youth Exchange

Jeonnam Middle School Students to Participate in International Organizations and Cultural Experiences

On June 17, the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korea-Africa Foundation in the business office of its headquarters, agreeing to mutually cooperate in order to promote youth international exchange and expand education on understanding Africa.

The signing ceremony was attended by Superintendent Kim Daejung, Kim Youngchae, President of the Korea-Africa Foundation, Park Cheolju, Jeonnam Ambassador for International Relations, and other officials from both organizations. The purpose of this agreement is to establish an organic system of cooperation to foster global citizenship among Jeonnam youth and enhance mutual understanding between Korea and Africa.

In particular, the two organizations plan to go beyond a simple declaration and connect the agreement to practical international exchange projects. The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education and the Korea-Africa Foundation will jointly operate the "Korea-Africa Youth Exchange Camp" in Kenya this October, together with Chuncheon City and others. A total of 30 domestic middle school students, including 10 third-year students from the Jeonnam region, are expected to participate in this exchange program.

The students will have the opportunity to visit international organizations located in Nairobi, Kenya, meet with the Korean ambassador to Kenya, participate in Korea-Kenya youth exchange activities, and experience various cultural programs, allowing them to directly experience Africa and broaden their mutual understanding.

Superintendent Kim Daejung stated, "It is meaningful that Jeonnam youth are given the opportunity to experience Africa up close and grow as global citizens," adding, "We will continue to expand glocal mutual understanding education in the future."

President Kim Youngchae said, "I hope this agreement will serve as a starting point for ongoing exchanges between the future generations of Korea and Africa," and added, "We will create sustainable outcomes through close cooperation with the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education."
