Kakao Union Halts First-Ever Strike... Resumes Collective Bargaining with Mobility

"Final Agreement on the Collective Bargaining Agreement Expected Through Main Negotiations"

The Kakao labor union, which had launched its first-ever strike, has suspended the planned phased strikes and returned to the negotiating table.

The Kakao Branch (Crew Union) of the National Chemical Fiber Food Industry Labor Union announced on June 18, "As a result of resuming negotiations with Kakao Mobility management on the evening of the 17th, we have reached a considerable consensus on many points and have decided to halt the strike."

Previously, the Kakao union had warned that it would go on strike for the first time since the establishment of the Kakao Community Union, claiming that Kakao Mobility management had unilaterally presented a low-level compensation proposal during the collective bargaining agreement negotiations.

Accordingly, the union held a two-hour partial strike on June 11. They had also planned a four-hour partial strike and a rally at Pangyo Station Square on this day, as well as a full-scale strike on June 25. However, after negotiations with management, these actions were withdrawn.

The Kakao union explained that labor and management have reached an agreement on key issues of the collective bargaining agreement, such as compensation levels, and that they plan to finalize the agreement through main negotiations.

A Kakao Mobility representative stated, "Both labor and management have reached a tentative agreement on the core issues through dialogue," adding, "We will continue to work towards a smooth final agreement in the upcoming main negotiations."
