A Four-Week Run at the Grand Theater of Sejong Center for the Performing Arts
The quintessential French musical "Notre-Dame de Paris" will return to the stage of the Grand Theater at Sejong Center for the Performing Arts for four weeks as part of its French original tour, celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Korean premiere.
On June 17, production company Mast International announced that "Notre-Dame de Paris" will be performed at the Grand Theater of Sejong Center for the Performing Arts from September 3 to 27.
"Notre-Dame de Paris" had its world premiere in France in 1998 and was first introduced to Korean audiences in 2005 at Sejong Center through the French original tour. Over the past 20 years, the musical has successfully completed six licensed seasons in Korea, attracting a cumulative audience of over 1.1 million people.
This 20th anniversary tour will feature both new cast members who are active on the global stage and original cast members from the premiere. Notably, Daniel Lavoie, who has played the role of Frollo for over 27 years since the French premiere of "Notre-Dame de Paris" in 1998, will once again take the stage in this production.
The musical "Notre-Dame de Paris" is based on the novel of the same name by Victor Hugo. Set in 15th-century Paris, it powerfully and beautifully portrays human desire, prejudice, and social corruption through the tragic love story of three characters?Quasimodo, Frollo, and Phoebus?centered around the gypsy woman Esmeralda. The musical is performed in a through-sung format, with all dialogue delivered in song. Upon its release, the original soundtrack topped the French music charts and achieved unprecedented success, selling over 11 million copies worldwide. In particular, "Le Temps des Cathedrales" and "Belle" have become beloved across Europe, leaving a lasting mark not only in musical theater but also in the history of French popular music.
Since its French premiere in 1998, "Notre-Dame de Paris" has been translated into nine languages and staged in over 30 countries, with a global cumulative audience of more than 15 million, making it a worldwide box office hit.
Tickets can be reserved through Sejong Culture Ticket, NOL Ticket, and Yes24 Ticket, with early bird discounts available for reservations made by July 6.
