On June 17, the Jeollanamdo Animal Hygiene Testing Center announced that it will conduct a comprehensive inspection for livestock infectious diseases at 29 breeding farms (26 breeding pig farms and 3 pig semen processing companies), which form the backbone of the pig farming industry, in order to protect the industry.

This comprehensive inspection for livestock infectious diseases is a regular examination conducted in accordance with the "Breeding Pig Farm Quarantine Management Guidelines." General breeding pig farms are inspected once every quarter, while certified excellent breeding farms are inspected once every half-year.

The inspection targets pigs at various stages of breeding, including breeding pigs (including semen) and piglets and fattening pigs, at both breeding farms and semen processing companies. The inspection covers 17 major types of livestock infectious diseases that can cause increased mortality rates and decreased productivity.

The basic inspection items include five diseases: foot-and-mouth disease, classical swine fever, Aujeszky’s disease, swine brucellosis, and porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS). For excellent breeding pig farms, the inspection is expanded to 13 diseases, including salmonellosis and porcine epidemic diarrhea. For excellent semen processing companies, the inspection is expanded to 10 diseases, including toxoplasmosis and porcine parvovirus.

If any livestock infectious disease is detected, the relevant city or county authorities will be notified immediately, and quarantine measures such as movement restrictions, culling recommendations, and orders for disposal will be implemented in accordance with related laws and regulations.

Jung Jiyeong, Director of the Jeollanamdo Animal Hygiene Testing Center, stated, "Through regular disease inspections at breeding pig farms and semen processing companies, we will detect livestock infectious diseases early and prevent their spread," and requested, "We also ask general pig farmers to thoroughly vaccinate against major diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease and classical swine fever, and to strictly follow quarantine guidelines."

Currently, there are 26 breeding pig farms and 3 pig semen processing companies operating in the Jeonnam region. Among them, 4 breeding pig farms and 1 semen processing company have been certified as "excellent breeding companies" by the National Institute of Animal Science under the Rural Development Administration and are managed professionally.
