Five-Minute Speech:
"Representing Residents' Voices with Humility"
Ahn Hyeongju, member of the Gwangju Seo-gu Council (Sangmu 2-dong, Seochang-dong, Kumho 1·2-dong), pledged to dedicate himself to legislative activities as a district councilor during a five-minute speech at the 331st first plenary session, marking the inauguration of the people's sovereignty government following the overcoming of a crisis that threatened democracy.
Representative Ahn referred to the declaration of martial law and the state of rebellion over the past half year, emphasizing that the unwavering commitment to the Constitution and democracy, as well as the great civic consciousness and solidarity displayed during the crisis, made this new beginning possible.
He also expressed his belief that, through politics conducted together with the people and by prioritizing public livelihood in state affairs, the future of the Republic of Korea will be strengthened.
In particular, he identified "restoring people's livelihoods" and "national unity" as key tasks the new government should focus on, and pledged to put the philosophy of the Democratic Party of Korea into practice at the local level.
Representative Ahn mentioned his three years of engaging in practical, community-centered legislative activities, and specifically introduced the case from March this year, when he joined heads of residents' councils as a joint representative in filing a resident ordinance initiative.
He added that, once the signatures are completed next month, the formal proposal will serve as an opportunity for a leap forward in the autonomous history of Seo-gu, and he will carefully oversee the process until the end.
Ahn Hyeongju stated, "I will always approach legislative activities with humility but firm conviction, in order to represent the voices of district residents and realize their aspirations through institutions and policies."
