National Soccer Team Player Park Seungwook from Yangsan Visits Hometown

Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province announced that national soccer team player Park Seungwook, who is originally from the region, visited Yangsan City Hall on June 12 and had a meeting with Mayor Na Dongyeon.

Park Seungwook was born in Yangsan in 1997 and began playing soccer at an early age under the influence of his father, Park Chijong, the former president of the Yangsan City Football Association. He attended Yangsan Elementary School, Yangsan Middle School, Hakseong High School, and Dong-Eui University, before starting his career as a player with the semi-professional club Busan Transportation Corporation.

He later advanced to the professional stage by transferring to the K League club Pohang Steelers in 2021. As a result of his consistent performance in the league, he was honored to be selected for the national team starting in 2024. Until recently, he was affiliated with Gimcheon Sangmu while fulfilling his military service.

Mayor Na Dongyeon welcomed Park's visit to Yangsan City, congratulated him on the victory over Kuwait on June 10, which allowed the national team to remain undefeated in the 2026 North and Central America World Cup qualifiers, and offered words of encouragement for completing his military service safely ahead of his upcoming discharge on June 17.

Park Seungwook expressed his gratitude, saying, "I am thankful to the city for providing an environment that allowed me to focus on soccer throughout my school years. Now, Yangsan City has created conditions that enable students to play soccer from elementary through high school without having to leave the region, so I believe many outstanding juniors will emerge in the future."

Mayor Na Dongyeon stated, "As a native of Yangsan, I am very grateful not only for raising the profile of our city but also for bringing honor to the nation. I look forward to seeing you perform well both in the domestic league and at the World Cup as you return to your team, the Pohang Steelers, and continue as you have so far."
