Daegu Foundation for Arts and Culture Launches "Daegu Makchang" Campaign to Attract Japanese Tourists Through November

The Daegu Metropolitan Government and the Tourism Headquarters of the Daegu Foundation for Arts and Culture announced that, starting from May 16, they have been carrying out the "Daegu Makchang Campaign" in collaboration with the Korea Tourism Organization to attract Japanese tourists, and that they will launch active promotional efforts from mid-June.

The Daegu Makchang Campaign, which runs until November of this year, is a regional specialty food campaign hosted by the Korea Tourism Organization, focusing on "gourmet cuisine," the number one reason Japanese tourists visit Korea.

Daegu Foundation for Arts and Culture Launches "Daegu Makchang" Campaign to Attract Japanese Tourists Through November Promotional material attracting Japanese tourists with "Daegu Makchang".

Following last year's Daegu Makchang Campaign, which earned Daegu the "Korea Tourism Organization Award" in the tourism industry development category, this year the city will again encourage visits by Japanese tourists through limited sales of the "Daegu Makchang Set Menu" at 31 restaurants in the famous Anjirang Gopchang Alley, as well as by offering a coupon book (up to 20% discounts at 13 local experience venues, cafes, and souvenir shops) that can be received after dining.

To further increase Japanese tourists' participation in the campaign, the Tourism Headquarters of the Daegu Foundation for Arts and Culture will actively promote the campaign from mid-June through collaborations with T'way Air's Japan Regional Headquarters and by holding events offering commemorative gifts to campaign participants.

The campaign will also be promoted in conjunction with a discounted airfare promotion for flights departing from Japan (Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka) and arriving at Daegu International Airport, with the aim of both publicizing the Daegu Makchang Campaign and boosting the influx of Japanese tourists through Daegu International Airport. Discounted airfares will be available for purchase from June 16 to June 30, with the travel period running through October 25, which includes the duration of the Daegu Makchang Campaign.

In addition, Japanese tourists who participate in the Daegu Makchang Campaign and present the coupon book they receive after their meal at tourist information centers (Dongseongno, Dongdaegu Station) will be eligible to take part in a Daegu tourism souvenir lottery event, which is expected to spark tourists' interest and encourage them to extend their stay in Daegu. Detailed information about the event will be shared through Daegu's official tourism SNS channels after mid-June.

Kang Sunggil, head of the Tourism Headquarters at the Daegu Foundation for Arts and Culture, stated, "We hope that many visitors to Daegu will experience the 'taste of Daegu' through customized content centered on 'gourmet cuisine,' which is the biggest reason Japanese tourists visit Korea," adding, "We also hope that, as with last year, Daegu will once again be remembered as a destination that visitors want to return to."
