The Sacheon City Baseball Association in Gyeongnam announced on June 17 that it held the opening ceremony for the 16th Sacheon Mayor's Cup Amateur Baseball Tournament at Sadeung Baseball Stadium, officially kicking off the competition.

This tournament is being held over two days, June 15 and 22, with a total of eight teams participating, including six teams from Sacheon City and two teams from Namhae County. The teams will compete in a tournament format. Despite the hot weather, over 250 participants and citizens gathered together, demonstrating the high enthusiasm for community sports in the region.

On this day, the Sacheon City Baseball Association surprised Mayor Dongsik Park with a baseball uniform as a gift, expressing gratitude for his ongoing interest in and support for the development of amateur baseball.

The highlight of the opening ceremony was Mayor Dongsik Park throwing the first pitch and City Council Chairman Kyuhun Kim performing the ceremonial first hit. Their impressive pitching and batting forms were met with applause from the audience, marking the official start of the tournament.

Mayor Dongsik Park stated, "Community sports are the vitality of a city and the center of citizens' lives. I will do my utmost to ensure that our citizens can exercise freely and that active exchanges can take place through local tournaments, all within a more modern and comfortable baseball environment."

Meanwhile, Sacheon City plans to use this tournament as an opportunity to further accelerate the expansion of local sports infrastructure. The city aims to realize a citizen-centered healthy city by building new baseball stadiums and implementing various community sports support policies.
