On June 16, the Construction and Firefighting Committee of the Chungnam Provincial Council conducted on-site visits to the Central Fire Academy of the National Fire Agency in Gongju and the Chungnam Automobile Specialized Maintenance Association in Asan.

The committee first visited the Central Fire Academy, where they met and encouraged the Chungnam team participating in the 38th National Firefighting Skills Competition held at the academy.

The National Firefighting Skills Competition is being held for three days from June 16 to June 18. More than 5,000 participants, including firefighters, volunteer firefighters, and private fire brigades from across the country, are competing fiercely in a total of 15 categories, such as fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical services tactics, and volunteer firefighting competitions.

This year’s competition offers a total of 110 special awards to winners, including 19 special promotions and 47 special advancements.

Ko Gwangcheol, Chairperson (Gongju 1, People Power Party), said, “Please participate in the competition without any health or safety accidents despite the heat,” and added, “Your safety is the safety of the public,” as he encouraged and supported the participating athletes.

Afterwards, the committee visited the Chungnam Automobile Specialized Maintenance Association to tour the eco-friendly automobile training facilities and review the status of maintenance workforce development.

The association is currently conducting training to develop a total of 730 maintenance personnel over three years from 2024 to 2026 (300 in 2024, 340 in 2025, and 90 in 2026).

In 2025, with a provincial government subsidy of 150 million won, the association plans to train a total of 340 maintenance personnel, including 280 for the basic course and 60 for the advanced course.

At the site, association representatives stated, “Although we have established and are operating our own training facilities, we are facing difficulties in securing the latest equipment such as diagnostic devices, lifts, resistance meters, and training vehicles.” They requested support for eco-friendly automobile maintenance training equipment (300 million won) and facility improvement support for automobile maintenance businesses (1.2 billion won).

The Construction and Firefighting Committee members said, “We fully agree on the need to support these projects to promote the spread of eco-friendly vehicles and enhance technical capabilities,” and added, “We will do our best to secure budgetary support for maintenance technology training equipment at the provincial council level.”
