Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province will officially launch the 'Onmaeum AI Welfare Call' service starting June 16, 2025.
The Onmaeum AI Welfare Call is a service in which an artificial intelligence (AI) call bot contacts welfare benefit recipients, such as basic livelihood security recipients and those in the near-poor category, to quickly and accurately provide information about customized welfare benefits.
In particular, by utilizing the AI call bot, the service overcomes the limitations of traditional analog information delivery methods such as mail, banners, and landline calls, enabling fast and accurate information to be provided simultaneously to thousands of recipients.
Going forward, welfare benefit recipients will receive information on more than 20 types of welfare services?including discounts on communication and electricity fees, government grain applications, voucher guidance, and instructions for receiving neighbor assistance?through the dedicated outgoing number for the AI Welfare Call (1688-0624).
This service is expected to help close welfare service gaps by providing various welfare information?including livelihood, medical, and housing support?to citizens who are at risk of missing out on benefits due to low information accessibility.
Cho Yongik, Mayor of Bucheon, stated, "The Onmaeum AI Welfare Call is the starting point of digital inclusive welfare, delivering customized welfare information to citizens quickly and reducing exclusion caused by the digital divide," adding, "We will realize proactive welfare through AI and welfare that citizens can truly feel."
Meanwhile, the city plans to introduce an AI voice analysis-based cognitive health screening service for seniors, linked to the Onmaeum AI Welfare Call, in July 2025.
