Spend Your Summer Vacation in Pohang! Pohang City to Open All 8 Beaches Simultaneously on July 12 Pohang Songdo Beach.

On June 11, the city held the 2025 Beach Council meeting in the Motorboat License Test Center conference room and finalized its operation plans.

The meeting was attended by a total of 19 people, including representatives from related agencies such as the Southern and Northern Police Stations and the eight beach managers, who checked the preparations for the opening and discussed safety management measures.

The designated beaches opening this summer are Yeongildae, Songdo, Hwajin, Chilpo, Wolpo, Guryongpo, Dogu, and Sinchang beaches, for a total of eight locations, and they will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

To ease the burden on tourists, shower fees and other facility usage charges at the beaches will remain unchanged from last year.

Following the opening of Sinchang Beach last year, this year Songdo Beach, which had been closed since 2007, will reopen after 18 years.

Pohang City plans to thoroughly inspect facilities and establish strict safety measures in preparation for the reopening of Songdo Beach to welcome visitors.

In addition, before the beaches open, the city will install shark-repelling nets at all eight designated beaches and deploy jellyfish control personnel and beach safety staff.

Each beach will have 10 safety personnel working in a 24-hour shift system, and the city will also operate on-site response teams in cooperation with the Southern and Northern Police Stations, the Fire Department, and the Coast Guard.

The on-site response teams will perform various roles from the sea observation center, including lifesaving, monitoring abnormal weather, initial response to marine accidents, and real-time monitoring of crowd levels and marine conditions.

Son Jeongho, Director of the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Bureau, stated, "We will work closely with related agencies to ensure that not a single safety accident occurs during the beach opening period, and we will thoroughly prepare so that both citizens and tourists can enjoy a safe and pleasant summer at the beach."

Pohang City is also carrying out beach and facility maintenance in time for the openings, and is focusing its administrative efforts on raising its profile as a marine tourism city ahead of the peak summer vacation season.
