July 7 to August 28, in cooperation with the British Council Korea

Songpa District in Seoul is recruiting participants for its "Native English Camp" for first and second grade elementary school students during the summer vacation. The district has been planning and operating this English camp, where students take classes with native English speakers during the vacation. Since its first implementation last year, the program has been credited with improving the quality of English education and reducing private education expenses.

A total of 276 students participated in last year's English camp. According to a satisfaction survey, more than 90% of students and parents responded that it was "effective in improving English skills," indicating a high level of satisfaction. Parents gave enthusiastic feedback, saying, "It greatly helped my child build confidence in English," and "After the camp, my child actively tries to speak English at home, which is very satisfying."

This year's summer vacation Native English Camp, in cooperation with the British Council Korea, will be held for first and second grade elementary school students from July 7 to August 28, running for eight weeks with two sessions per week. Classes will be held at three Songpa Learn Education Centers (Head, Jamsil, Wirye), divided into beginner and intermediate classes to provide level-appropriate instruction.

The beginner class is a basic conversation course focused on learning essential vocabulary for everyday life, emphasizing the ability to understand and express familiar topics in English. The intermediate class aims to expand vocabulary through creative writing activities and improve the ability to freely read, write, and speak sentences on a variety of topics.

To help students easily internalize what they learn in class, the program includes art activities such as drawing and crafting, as well as English learning through board games and role-playing. In the final week, a "Classroom Olympics" will be held, and various hands-on programs will provide opportunities to foster creativity and global competence beyond simple learning.

All camp classes are taught by native English-speaking instructors who hold at least a bachelor's degree from an English-speaking country and have extensive experience in junior English education. Korean assistant instructors are also assigned to help ensure smooth and engaging classes.

Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis through the Songpa Learn website starting at 10 a.m. on June 19. The tuition fee is 60,000 won, including the cost of textbooks, and discounts are available for multicultural and multi-child families.

Seo Kangseok, Mayor of Songpa District, stated, "We will continue to focus on supplementing gaps in public English education, create a comprehensive English learning environment to reduce dependence on private education, and strive to provide equal educational opportunities."
