The newly established Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Center is a dedicated medical facility on the third floor of the hospital building, specializing in the treatment and procedures for severe emergencies such as heart disease and cerebrovascular disease. Equipped with dedicated procedure rooms, emergency intervention equipment, and specialized medical staff, it will play a crucial role in securing the golden hour for emergency treatment.
According to Statistics Korea's "2023 Cause of Death Statistics," cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases account for 16.3% of all causes of death, and the heart disease mortality rate in the Busan region (35.5 per 100,000 people) exceeds the national average (26.1 per 100,000).
In particular, Gijang County, which has a high proportion of elderly residents, has struggled with emergency transport due to poor access to regional emergency centers.
In response, in 2023, Gijang County signed a four-party agreement with Busan City, the Seosaengmyeon Residents' Association, and the Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center to establish the Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Center, making the opening possible through close cooperation and support.
The Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Center is also expected to help reduce mortality and complications from these diseases by establishing an integrated care system that links prevention-focused programs and early rehabilitation systems in the future.
Jongbok Jung, Mayor of Gijang County, stated, "The opening of this center will greatly enhance medical accessibility, which is directly connected to the lives of each and every resident," adding, "We will continue our unwavering efforts to resolve regional medical disparities and to guarantee the right to health for our residents."
