Woo Ohhyun, chairman of SM Group, received a plaque of appreciation from Seodaemun District in Seoul in recognition of his contribution to improving public convenience through the construction of the Independence Gate public parking lot.

According to SM Group on the 13th, Chairman Woo Ohhyun attended the opening ceremony of the "Independence Gate Cultural Park Public Parking Lot" held in Yeongcheon-dong, Seodaemun District, Seoul the previous day, where he was presented with a plaque of appreciation by Lee Sunghun, mayor of Seodaemun District. This is the second time Chairman Woo has received such recognition, following his contribution to the relocation of Sinchon Minja Station (SM Group Sinchon Office Building) in April.


The Independence Gate Cultural Park Public Parking Lot, with a total project cost of 35 billion won, is a public parking facility with three underground levels and two above-ground floors, accommodating 120 vehicles. It is equipped with various amenities, including electric vehicle charging stations and public restrooms. The construction was carried out by Dong-Ah Construction Industrial, a construction affiliate of SM Group. The project broke ground in December 2021 and was completed in about three years and five months. Accessibility to nearby attractions such as the Independence Gate, Seodaemun Prison History Museum, and Yeongcheon Market, as well as local transportation convenience, is expected to improve significantly.


More than 100 people attended the opening ceremony, including Chairman Woo, Lee Sunghun, mayor of Seodaemun District, Lim Dongbok, CEO of Dong-Ah Construction Industrial, Kim Donga, member of the National Assembly from the Democratic Party of Korea (Seodaemun-gap), Lee Yongho, head of the Seodaemun-gap party committee of the People Power Party, and Park Jongbok, president of the Yeongcheon Market Merchants Association. Chairman Woo celebrated the opening by participating in the ribbon-cutting and touring the facilities.


Chairman Woo stated, "It is meaningful to be able to provide practical convenience to citizens and tourists visiting the historical sites that represent Seodaemun District," and added, "We will continue to communicate with citizens through cooperation with the local community."
