Eunjung Lim on Nomination for Justice Minister: "Grateful to Everyone... Hoping the World Changes a Little More"

Public Recommendation System Launched... Eunjung Lim Mentioned as Potential Justice Minister
"I Am Grateful for the Recommendations"

As the Lee Jaemyung administration selects candidates for high-ranking public office through public recommendations, Eunjung Lim, Chief Prosecutor at the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office, is being mentioned as a potential candidate for Minister of Justice to lead prosecutorial reform. In response, Chief Prosecutor Lim stated, "I am grateful to everyone who recommended me despite my shortcomings."

Chief Prosecutor Lim, who has identified herself as an internal whistleblower within the prosecution, wrote on Facebook on the 11th, "I have received many messages asking me to 'please set the Ministry of Justice and the prosecution on the right path,'" adding, "The encouragement, support, expectations, and hopes contained in those recommendations feel heavy, and I am deeply moved and grateful."

Chief Prosecutor Lim recalled, "I remember the first round of prosecutorial appointments under the Moon Jaein administration in 2017. I had hoped that I might recover from the disadvantages I had faced in personnel decisions, but instead, I was promoted to deputy chief prosecutor alongside colleagues who were two years my junior and assigned to the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office. It was upsetting that both my peers and juniors were promoted to chief prosecutor positions."

She continued, "At the time, when a newly promoted chief prosecutor, who had been made deputy chief, smiled and asked, 'Prosecutor Lim, did you think the world would change so easily?' I couldn't hide my reaction and my face contorted. I had expected that the Moon Jaein administration would properly hold political prosecutors accountable and reform the prosecution, but those political prosecutors quickly adapted and became part of the Moon administration's prosecution. I struggled for a long time because of their ridicule."

She went on to say, "Just as it has been until now, there are troubling rumors that prosecutors who were central figures in the Yoon Sukyeol administration will reinvent themselves as prosecutors under the Lee Jaemyung administration, and that the Office of Senior Presidential Secretary for Civil Affairs will serve as a lever to ensure these prosecutors continue to be favored. I am also very interested in the appointment of the new Minister of Justice, Vice Minister, and Director of the Prosecution Bureau. While the world may not change easily, I sincerely hope that the world will change at least a little more than it did back then, because democracy was so arduously defended by so many citizens enduring the harsh winter in the streets."

The public recommendation system allows citizens to recommend major public officials, such as ministers, vice ministers, and heads of public institutions, who can be appointed by the president. The system will be in operation until the 16th. Recommendations can be made by leaving a post on the public recommendation system website operated by the Ministry of Personnel Management, or by using President Lee Jaemyung's official social networking service (SNS) accounts, allowing anyone to participate.
