How Do Vegetables Grown Without Soil Taste?... Pohang Hosts Airfarm Harvest Tasting Event

Airfarm Harvest Tasting Event Held in Pohang
Spotlight on a Model Combining Local Food and Advanced Technology for Future Sustainable Food

A special tasting event offering fresh foods made with Airfarm harvests was held at Pohang City Hall.

On June 12, Pohang City hosted the "Airfarm Harvest Tasting Event" at the Solar Gallery Airfarm Exhibition Hall in City Hall, introducing citizens to new possibilities for sustainable food.

At the event, sandwiches and salads were prepared using the first harvested vegetables from the indoor farm (Airfarm), which grows crops without soil by supplying nutrients in the form of fine mist in the air.

In particular, the fresh menu received an enthusiastic response, featuring "Kaipira," a European-style lettuce grown in the indoor farm, bread baked with Pohang-produced flour rice, plant-based artificial meat made from soybeans, and beverages made with local agricultural products.

This tasting event was more than just a food sampling experience; it provided an opportunity to introduce citizens to a sustainable food model that combines local food with future food technologies.

The indoor farm, installed at City Hall in April this year, serves as a symbolic space demonstrating the potential for food production within the city. Attendees were able to observe the vegetable cultivation process on-site and experience firsthand how agriculture based on advanced technology is becoming part of everyday life.

Through this event, Pohang City created an opportunity to naturally connect three future agri-food strategies with citizens' daily lives: urban food production using Airfarm technology, expanding the foundation for self-sufficiency by fostering the plant-based protein industry, and diversifying rice demand by promoting the consumption of flour rice.

Mayor Lee Kangdeok said, "This event marks the starting point for building a sustainable food ecosystem by combining technology and local resources," adding, "We will continue to expand various initiatives so that citizens' dining tables, local agriculture, and the future food industry can grow together."
