90% Subsidy for Farmers' Insurance Premiums
Applications Accepted Until the 20th
Jeongeup City in North Jeolla Province announced on the 12th that it will provide 90% support for crop disaster insurance premiums to protect farmers from typhoons and crop diseases and pests.
Starting this year, the city has expanded its financial support for crop disaster insurance, so farmers now only need to pay 10% of the insurance premium to enroll. As a result, the financial burden on farmers has been significantly reduced, and interest in insurance enrollment among farmers is increasing.
Crop disaster insurance is a system that compensates for damages caused by various natural disasters, such as typhoons, floods, droughts, and crop diseases and pests, to help ensure stable farm management. In particular, rice crop insurance covers not only heavy rains, wild animal damage, and fires, but also diseases and pests such as bacterial leaf blight, rice blast, and brown planthopper through special riders.
The enrollment period for rice crop disaster insurance is open until the 20th, and applications can be made at the nearest Nonghyup branch. The city urged farmers to carefully review the policy terms and coverage details before enrolling.
The city currently designates a total of 65 items as eligible for insurance. Last year, 7,406 policies were purchased covering an area of 13,359 hectares, and insurance payouts totaling approximately 17.2 billion KRW were made for over 2,600 cases. As a result, many farmers were able to partially recover from disaster-related damages.
An official from the Agricultural Technology Center stated, "As the frequency of natural disasters increases due to climate change, disaster preparedness is essential," and added, "Please do not miss the rice disaster insurance enrollment deadline of June 20 and apply as soon as possible."
