SK hynix climbs over 2%
Hyundai Motor and Kia also post gains over 1%
The KOSPI continues its upward trend, maintaining the 2,900 level. Despite ongoing uncertainties in the international landscape, such as the US-China tariff negotiations, the domestic stock market is experiencing a 'honeymoon' period due to expectations of structural improvements following the election of President Lee Jaemyung.
On June 12, the KOSPI opened at 2,909.99, up 0.10% from the previous day. The index continued to climb, reaching the 2,920 range.
By investor type, both foreign investors and individuals showed net buying. Foreign investors made net purchases of 6.8 billion won, while individuals net bought 109.8 billion won. Institutions, on the other hand, recorded net sales of 100.6 billion won.
Many sectors are on the rise. The construction sector saw the largest increase at 4.66%, followed by machinery and equipment (3.28%), transportation equipment and parts (1.57%), general services (1.45%), and textiles and apparel (1.28%). In contrast, pharmaceuticals (-0.72%) and paper and wood (-0.49%) declined.
Among the top 10 stocks by market capitalization, SK hynix posted the largest gain at 2.5%, followed by Kia (1.7%), Hanwha Aerospace (1.6%), Hyundai Motor (1.2%), HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (0.6%), and LG Energy Solution (0.3%). Meanwhile, Samsung Biologics (-1.3%), Celltrion (-0.6%), KB Financial Group (-0.5%), and Samsung Electronics (-0.3%) fell.
The KOSDAQ opened slightly lower at 786.27, down 0.02 points from the previous day. It then edged up, recording 788.00 as of 9:27 a.m.
Unlike the KOSPI, foreign investors showed net sales of 54.5 billion won. In contrast, individuals and institutions recorded net purchases of 60.6 billion won and 4.8 billion won, respectively.
Most sectors in the KOSDAQ market also showed gains. The construction sector posted the largest increase at 2.76%, followed by metals (1.86%), other manufacturing (1.35%), and textiles and apparel (1.21%). Distribution (-0.57%) and non-metallics (-0.22%) declined.
Most of the top 10 KOSDAQ stocks by market capitalization were on the rise. Hugel (1.3%), Peptron (1.2%), EcoPro BM (1.1%), and PharmaResearch (0.9%) recorded notable gains. Only Rigakem Bio (-0.8%) and HLB (-0.7%) declined.
