Errol Musk Speaks at Event in Moscow
"Russia Considered Rocket Purchase Offer a Joke"
Errol Musk, the father of Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, claimed that "Elon tried to buy rockets from Russia but was refused."
On June 11 (local time), TASS and other media outlets reported that Errol Musk made this statement the previous day while attending the "Future Forum 2050" event held in Moscow, Russia. He said, "Elon tried to buy rockets from Russia. As everyone knows, the best rockets are made in Russia," and added, "But the Russians thought my son was joking, so they didn't sell him the rockets." He further explained, "This experience was one of the reasons that led Elon to establish SpaceX and decide to develop rockets independently." Elon Musk founded the private space development company SpaceX in 2002.
Errol Musk also commented on the conflict between his son and former U.S. President Donald Trump, saying, "There was a clash because Elon tried to stick to his principles, but I expect their relationship to improve soon."
He claimed, "My son supported the Trump administration because he believed it would reduce government spending, but he felt frustrated when the policy shift contradicted the values he had agreed with." He added, "In politics, there are cases where money has to be spent on products that have not yet been released, because that money later helps increase production. That is an economic law."
Errol Musk is a South African businessman and politician. He is known to have seven children from two marriages and extramarital relationships, with Elon being the eldest. During his visit to Russia, he said, "I was impressed by the size of Moscow, its excellent roads, cleanliness, and safety." He continued, "People around me, including my sons, advised against traveling to Russia," and pointed out, "The American media portrays Russia as a very bad place that is hostile to foreigners."
The Kremlin welcomed his visit, stating, "Russia is open to foreigners. The best way to understand Russia is to come and see it for yourself."
