No abnormal radiation detected!

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power's Saewool Nuclear Headquarters announced on the 11th that it had explained the results of this year's environmental radiation survey to local residents, and that radiation levels in the surrounding area were found to be safe.

Saewool Nuclear Headquarters (Director So Youseop) held the "2024 Saewool Nuclear Power Plant Environmental Radiation Survey Results Briefing" at the Administrative Welfare Center in Seosaeng-myeon, Ulju-gun, Ulsan, on the morning of the same day.

More than 160 local residents, including Kim Chigwon, chairman of the Nuclear Power Plant Monitoring Organization Council, and residents of Yangam and Sinri villages, attended the event. The briefing was organized by the Pukyong National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation.

Professor Nam Seungil of Pukyong National University, who presented the survey results, stated, "We analyzed a total of 815 samples for radioactivity, including 745 terrestrial and marine samples such as drinking water, groundwater, agricultural products, seawater, fish, and seaweed collected from 86 locations around the Saewool Nuclear Power Plant, along with 70 samples collected jointly with residents."

Professor Nam revealed, "The concentration of artificial radioactive nuclides in all samples was below the minimum detectable concentration or at a level similar to that of other regions in Korea."

This survey is an annual regular investigation conducted in accordance with the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission's notification, and a local university is directly responsible for the analysis to ensure residents' trust. Saewool Nuclear Headquarters continues to communicate with residents by disclosing the results and holding explanatory sessions.

A representative of Saewool Nuclear Headquarters stated, "We will continue to hold briefings to scientifically confirm that there is no environmental impact from the operation of the nuclear power plant and to build trust with the local community."
