The Administrative and Autonomy Committee of Gwangju City Council, chaired by Ahn Pyunghwan, conducted an on-site visit on the morning of the 11th to check and review the overall status of Uchi Park operations and activation plans.
Uchi Park was designated as a park in 1987, and in 1991, the amusement facility Family Land was opened. The following year, a zoo and botanical garden were established, giving the park its current form. At one time, it was beloved by citizens as Gwangju's "original fun spot." However, due to aging facilities and other factors, it is now being neglected by local residents and is becoming a fading place of nostalgic memories.
In response, Gwangju City has established the "Uchi Neighborhood Park Activation Plan" and is seeking ways to restore its status as a leading regional tourism landmark by creating a future-oriented, multi-themed park facility.
On this day, members of the City Council's Administrative and Autonomy Committee inspected the maintenance plans for the zoo enclosures, toured the amusement facility sites, identified operational issues and areas for improvement, listened to activation plans from relevant departments, and discussed future directions for the project.
Chairperson Ahn Pyunghwan stated, "I hope Uchi Park will once again become a place that provides play, culture, and relaxation, revitalizing the lives of our citizens," adding, "The council will thoroughly monitor the implementation process and do its best to ensure that citizens' opinions are fully reflected."
