Chonnam National University announced on June 11 that it had invited the presidential delegation of Columbus State University (hereafter CSU) from the United States to discuss expanding cooperation between the two universities in the fields of education, research, and culture and the arts.
The event, organized by the Chonnam National University Office of International Affairs, was attended on the CSU side by President Stuart Rayfield, Chief Operating Officer MG(R) Patrick Donahoe, Director of International Affairs Dr. Eric Spears, Associate Professor of Policy Studies Dr. Daewoo Lee, and Professor of English Linguistics Dr. Kyong Seon Jeon, making a total of five representatives.
From Chonnam National University, President Lee Geunbae, Vice President for Academic Affairs Kim Yanghyun, Dean of Graduate School Joo Jungmin, Deputy Director of International Affairs Kang Euikyuk, and Library Director Choi Moonhong participated in the meeting. They held discussions with the CSU delegation and engaged in in-depth talks on sustainable cooperation between the two universities.
Since signing an international exchange agreement in 2013, Chonnam National University and CSU have maintained active exchanges for over ten years. So far, 73 students and faculty members from CSU have visited Chonnam National University, while 42 individuals from Chonnam National University have been dispatched to CSU, demonstrating clear quantitative achievements in their partnership. Recently, students from Chonnam National University's Department of Music have participated in CSU's piano masterclass program, further deepening exchanges centered on the arts and culture.
Professor Kyong Seon Jeon of CSU's Department of English Linguistics, who was included in this visiting delegation, is an alumnus of Chonnam National University. She continues to foster ties with her juniors by lecturing at the Chonnam National University International Summer School every year. As an alumna, Professor Jeon also provides dedicated support to students from Chonnam National University when they are dispatched to CSU, helping them adapt locally.
Exchanges in the field of music between the two universities are also active. Last winter, Professor Esther Park, a world-renowned pianist and faculty member in piano at CSU, visited Chonnam National University to hold a masterclass and concert, fostering deep artistic exchanges with Chonnam National University students. Through these activities, students gained the opportunity to experience world-class music education firsthand and to strengthen their expertise and capabilities.
