Six Innovative Ideas Selected from the 'Port Innovation Public Proposal'
From digital accessibility to traffic safety and community projects
Winning proposals to be developed into practical initiatives by Busan Port Authority
Busan Port Authority has unveiled six port innovation ideas sourced from public proposals. These diverse suggestions, ranging from bridging the digital divide to traffic safety and regional collaboration projects, are expected to be developed into practical innovation initiatives.
On June 11, Busan Port Authority (BPA) announced the six winning entries of the '2025 Port Innovation Public Proposal' contest. The awards included one grand prize, three excellence awards, and two encouragement awards. The contest was held throughout April, accepting submissions from both port workers and the general public, and the winners were selected through a review by internal and external experts.
The grand prize went to a proposal to introduce an electronic braille function to enhance information accessibility for the digitally disadvantaged. The proposal aims to establish an electronic braille system on the Busan Port Authority website, providing visually impaired users with electronic documents containing the same content as standard documents. BPA expects this initiative to help reduce the information gap between people with and without disabilities and promote equality in the digital environment.
Ideas related to traffic safety and social contribution also received high marks. Proposals for installing reflective mirrors to reduce right-turn accidents involving large trucks on roads near the port, and delivering traffic safety messages using lenticular visual techniques, each received excellence awards. Another excellence award went to the proposal for a 'Busan Port Visitor Digital Guide App,' which was highly regarded for its practicality and scalability.
The encouragement awards were given to proposals for establishing a 'Port Innovation Living Lab' and improving housing for elderly people living alone near the port. These suggestions target community-based problem solving and mutual growth with the port community.
Busan Port Authority plans to review the winning proposals internally, select them as actual innovation projects, and assign responsible departments for implementation. Prize money will be awarded to the winners.
Song Sangkeun, President of Busan Port Authority, stated, "We will do our best to ensure that the valuable suggestions from the public lead to real change," and added, "We will respond with an open attitude to the voices from the field."
Since 2017, BPA has held an annual public contest for port innovation ideas.
