In Daejeon, an off-duty firefighter quickly extinguished a vehicle fire that broke out in an apartment complex, preventing major damage.
According to the Daejeon Seobu Fire Station, the fire occurred at around 2:16 p.m. on June 10 in the parking lot of an apartment complex located in Dong-gu, Daejeon.
At the time, Donggil Kang, leader of Incident Command Team 1 of the Daejeon Seobu Fire Station's Emergency Response Unit, was passing by the scene. He witnessed smoke and flames and immediately evacuated the vehicle's driver.
After calling 119, he used a public powder fire extinguisher stored in the apartment to put out the fire. The response team from the Dongbu Fire Station arrived soon after and completed the extinguishing of remaining embers and ensured site safety, preventing the fire from spreading further.
An investigation found that the fire, which started in the vehicle's engine compartment, was caused by a mechanical defect resulting from a fuel leak.
Kim Hwasik, Chief of the Daejeon Seobu Fire Station, stated, "Fire Lieutenant Kang's calm and decisive actions while off duty are a true example of the spirit of firefighting. I hope this incident serves as a reminder to citizens of the importance of early fire response and the role of fire extinguishers."
