Schneider Electric and Hanwha Ocean Join Forces for Energy Transition

MOU Signed for Supply and Demonstration of Ultra-High-Efficiency Motors
Comprehensive Collaboration from Technology Exchange to Sales

Schneider Electric Korea, a global leader in energy and automation, has partnered with Hanwha Ocean. The two companies plan to accelerate the energy transition across the shipbuilding industry by supplying ultra-high-efficiency motors (IE5).

On June 11, Schneider Electric Korea announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Hanwha Ocean at Hanwha Building in Jung-gu, Seoul, for the supply and demonstration of ultra-high-efficiency motors. The signing ceremony was attended by key officials from both companies, including Kwon Jiwoong, CEO of Schneider Electric Korea, and Yu Cheokgeun, Senior Manager of Hanwha Ocean.

The purpose of this agreement is to increase mutual benefits for both companies and accelerate the energy transition across the shipbuilding industry by supplying ultra-high-efficiency motors optimized for ship equipment such as pumps and fans. The two sides plan to go beyond simple technology exchange and engage in practical business cooperation, including: supplying ultra-high-efficiency motors; collaborating with equipment manufacturers and research institutes for installation and performance verification; installing and conducting verification tests on operating vessels in real ship environments; sharing technical data related to equipment, such as pump and fan performance curves; and cooperating in technical marketing and sales activities for customers.

Schneider Electric will lead the technical verification of the ultra-high-efficiency motors, while Hanwha Ocean will provide actual operating environments for real-ship testing as needed. Furthermore, the two companies plan to accelerate the development of joint solutions to respond to global environmental regulations and to promote the reduction of carbon emissions and the spread of eco-friendly ship technologies.

Yu Cheokgeun, Senior Manager of Hanwha Ocean, stated, "It is meaningful to apply a proven ultra-high-efficiency motor to actual vessels," adding, "The collaboration between the two companies will contribute to the construction of eco-friendly ships and the realization of ESG (environmental, social, and governance) management."

Kwon Jiwoong, CEO of Schneider Electric Korea, said, "This collaboration is a significant turning point for energy efficiency innovation in the domestic shipbuilding industry," and added, "We expect that the synergy between Schneider Electric's advanced high-efficiency technology and Hanwha Ocean's extensive field experience will help lead the future of a sustainable shipbuilding industry."
