On June 10 (local time), CNN News reported that Karen Bass, mayor of Los Angeles (LA), USA, announced that an emergency curfew would be imposed in certain downtown areas of LA starting tonight.
Mayor Bass stated that the curfew would be in effect from 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. the following day, and that it was likely to remain in place for several days.
Jim McDonnell, chief of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), said that residents of the affected areas would be exempt from the curfew, except for non-residents.
Mayor Bass has been considering the curfew since June 6, after stores continued to suffer damage following protests against the Trump administration's anti-illegal immigration policies.
According to NBC Los Angeles, while protests during the day on June 9 were relatively peaceful, 23 stores?including an Apple Store?were confirmed to have been looted or damaged during the night.
