Gwangmyeong City in Gyeonggi Province is launching a task force (TF) to incorporate key local policies into national policy agendas.

On the morning of June 11, Gwangmyeong City held a meeting of the 'National Sovereignty Government Policy Response Strategy TF' in the city hall's medium conference room, where it discussed response measures and strategies to link and integrate the city's major policies with national policy agendas. The city explained that the launch of this TF is a proactive measure to respond to the national policy agendas that the new government's National Policy Planning Committee is expected to establish.

The TF, headed by Vice Mayor Jeong Sunwook, consists of eight subcommittees: ▲Livelihood Economy ▲Citizen Safety ▲Carbon Neutrality ▲Basic Society ▲Autonomous Decentralization ▲Social Economy ▲Balanced Development ▲Regional Pledges. These subcommittees will proactively prepare strategic projects that align with the national policy direction.

During the meeting, the city identified and reviewed specific projects to be linked with national policy agendas, focusing on four key areas: livelihood economy, carbon neutrality, basic society, and social economy.

In the meeting, the city decided to pursue policies in the livelihood economy sector such as expanding local currency, supporting small businesses, and implementing measures to reduce living expenses. In the area of carbon neutrality, the city plans to establish a roadmap for reducing carbon emissions and expand eco-friendly energy infrastructure. For the basic society sector, the city discussed as core tasks the expansion of integrated care to address low birth rates and an aging population, as well as strengthening public healthcare infrastructure to establish a life-cycle-based welfare system.

In particular, the city plans to actively establish concrete implementation plans to ensure that the new government's regional pledges are included in the national policy agenda. These pledges include: ▲establishing a new Sincheon~Haan~Sillim Line railway route ▲creating a Gwangmyeong Siheung Line/GTX-D integrated transfer Speedom Station ▲developing the KTX Gwangmyeong Station area as an international administrative and business hub ▲developing Gwangmyeong Siheung New Town as a global cultural and economic city ▲establishing a Youth Innovation Town on national land in Haan-dong ▲creating a comprehensive sports town along Mokgamcheon ▲establishing Anyangcheon as a national garden ▲and building a new exit at Gueil Station in the Gwangmyeong direction.

The city plans to hold ad-hoc subcommittee meetings and regular full TF meetings until August, when the new government's National Policy Planning Committee is in operation, to further specify policy tasks and implementation strategies and to promote external cooperation and proposals. After the national policy agendas are finalized in September, the city will expand and reorganize the TF into a working-level implementation team to begin full-scale follow-up actions.

Park Seungwon, mayor of Gwangmyeong, stated, "The policies that the city has been prioritizing, such as restoring the livelihood economy, achieving carbon neutrality, and realizing a basic society, are in line with the national policy direction of the National Sovereignty Government and will gain even more momentum. Building on this, we will strategically respond to ensure that local issues are incorporated into the national policy agenda and lead to tangible results."
