Jeollanam-do will conduct quarantine inspections of 1,040 poultry farms to proactively prevent highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) during the winter of 2025-2026.
This inspection will be carried out in two phases by September. The first round will cover all targeted farms, and for those where deficiencies are identified, a second follow-up inspection will be conducted to check whether corrective actions have been implemented.
The inspections will cover the installation and proper operation of mandatory quarantine facilities such as disinfection systems and anterooms at each farm, as well as whether farm owners are complying with basic quarantine regulations.
Additionally, the inspections will include checking whether contract farms of livestock integration companies and their education and inspection requirements are being fulfilled.
For the farms subject to inspection, Jeollanam-do has distributed quarantine management guidelines and inspection checklists in advance through city and county offices and relevant associations, so that farm owners can prepare for the inspections themselves.
Lee Youngnam, Director of Animal Quarantine at Jeollanam-do, stated, "We will thoroughly inspect the biosecurity status of farms and promptly address and improve any deficiencies," and urged, "Rather than a one-time inspection, we will do our best to encourage voluntary, continuous self-inspection and improvement by farm owners."
As a result of Jeollanam-do's effective preemptive measures, such as breeding restrictions and improvements to quarantine facilities, the number of highly pathogenic avian influenza cases during the winter of 2024-2025 was limited to five, the lowest ever recorded.
