The Evergreen Mural Volunteer Group participated in the Yeosu Coast Guard's "Maritime Safety Campaign" by painting murals encouraging life jacket use and navigation rule compliance. These murals were created on the exterior walls of the Yeosu Coast Guard Mangdeok Branch building near Mangdeok Port and along the village road in Changchon Village, Myodo-dong. In recognition of the group's voluntary participation and efforts to promote maritime safety among citizens, the Yeosu Coast Guard presented them with a letter of appreciation.
Founded in 2019, the Evergreen Mural Volunteer Group is led by Kang Seonghwan (Section Chief of the Steelmaking Department at Gwangyang Steelworks) and consists of about 30 employees and their family members. The group has been engaged in various mural painting activities throughout the Gwangyang area.
In April, the group created traditional play game murals on the pavement near the Youth Culture Centers in Kumho-dong and Jungma-dong, establishing play spaces for local children. Last year, they painted murals along the Seocheon riverside walkway in Gwangyang-eup, creating a more vibrant green space for citizens. To date, the Evergreen Mural Volunteer Group has completed murals at approximately 50 different locations.
Kim Kiyong, Chief of the Yeosu Coast Guard, stated, "The activities of the Evergreen Mural Volunteer Group have made a significant contribution to establishing a culture of maritime safety. Their voluntary participation and dedication are having a positive impact on the local community."
Kang Seonghwan, Head of the Evergreen Mural Volunteer Group, said, "We hope our small efforts will help spread a culture of maritime safety. We will continue to pursue a variety of activities that contribute to the local community."
Meanwhile, Gwangyang Steelworks regularly conducts joint volunteer activities each year to practice POSCO's unique culture of 'volunteering and sharing' and to engage with the local community. There are currently 49 talent volunteer groups, in which employees utilize their individual skills to provide customized support based on the needs of the community.
