Sejong City Imposes 13.1 Billion Won in First-Half Automobile Taxes

A total of 13.1 billion won in automobile taxes will be levied for the first half of this year on vehicles operating in the Sejong area.

According to Sejong City on June 11, the number of registered vehicles in the first half of this year reached 203,000, an increase of 1% compared to last year. As a result, the first-half automobile tax has also increased by 900 million won. As of last month, the total population of Sejong City was 392,211, indicating that each household owns or operates at least one vehicle.

The automobile tax is imposed twice a year on the registered owners of vehicles as of the tax base dates of June 1 and December 1 each year. The first-half automobile tax is for vehicle ownership from January 1 to June 30 of this year.

However, those who have prepaid the annual tax are excluded from this round of taxation. Payment can be made by June 30 at any financial institution nationwide, through cash dispensers (CD/ATM), Wetax, online Giro, virtual accounts, or the dedicated local tax automated response service (ARS) number.

If you use the local tax income account (electronic payment number) on the tax bill, the transfer fee is waived. If you apply for both electronic delivery and automatic transfer payment through a simple payment app, you can also receive a tax deduction benefit of 1,600 won.

A city official stated, "After the automobile tax payment deadline, a 3% late payment penalty and disadvantages such as seizure due to delinquency may be imposed," and added, "There are various payment methods available, so we hope you make good use of them and pay within the deadline."
