Samsung SDI announced on June 11 that it has signed a battery supply agreement for energy storage systems (ESS) with Tesvolt, a German manufacturer specializing in commercial ESS.

Under this agreement, Samsung SDI will supply its integrated battery product, the "Samsung Battery Box (SBB)," to Tesvolt by the end of this month. Tesvolt plans to produce and install its own ESS solutions by combining this with a power conversion system (PCS) and a cybersecurity system. In addition to this contract, the two companies will continue negotiations for additional supplies and have agreed to expand and strengthen their cooperation through joint promotions for future ESS business orders.
Samsung SDI's SBB is a product that installs battery cells, modules, and racks in a 20-foot container box. It can be used immediately when connected to the power grid and has significantly enhanced safety, earning recognition for its technology in the global market, particularly in the United States and Europe.
Samsung SDI plans to supply the "SBB 1.0" to Tesvolt and begin supplying the "SBB 1.5" starting in the second quarter of next year.
The "SBB 1.5," which was launched last year, is a product with improved capacity, safety, and ease of installation and operation. Earlier this year, it received the "Innovation Award" at "CES 2025," the world's largest IT exhibition held in Las Vegas, United States.
Tesvolt, founded in 2014, is a leading company in the European commercial ESS market. The company has shown rapid growth, including securing a supply contract last year for an ESS facility to be built in Rhineland-Palatinate, southwestern Germany. Recently, it has also been expanding its business into the power ESS sector.
A Samsung SDI representative stated, "We have been supplying ESS batteries to Tesvolt since 2017, and we expect our cooperation to be further strengthened with this SBB supply. Going forward, we will accelerate our efforts to target global markets, including Europe."
