Gyeonggi Province will conduct joint safety inspections with city and county governments in four locations?Namyangju, Pyeongtaek, Paju, and Uijeongbu?until June 27 to prevent accidents caused by falling outdoor advertisements due to summer typhoons and other weather-related disasters.
The inspections will cover all outdoor advertisements in the province, including advertisements that have not been inspected after obtaining permission or reporting, unattended signboards, and fixed advertisements that may be structurally damaged. In particular, the focus will be on inspecting old fixed advertisements that have either exceeded the regular inspection period or have been installed for more than 10 years, to prevent any safety gaps regarding outdoor advertisements.
Each city and county will conduct on-site inspections according to their own inspection plans. Gyeonggi Province will form joint inspection teams with key city and county officials, provincial and municipal government employees, the Outdoor Advertisement Association, and private experts, who will conduct detailed inspections based on relevant legal standards.
During the joint inspections, officials will also gather on-site feedback related to the maintenance and safety management of outdoor advertisements. Meetings involving responsible public officials and private experts will be held to share any difficulties encountered during the inspections and to discuss necessary improvements and policy directions.
According to the results of the inspections, Gyeonggi Province will immediately correct minor issues on site. For advertisements that pose potential safety risks, administrative measures such as imposing enforcement fines and collecting penalty charges will be taken in accordance with the Outdoor Advertisement Act.
Park Jonggeun, Director of Architectural Policy at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "This inspection is a proactive measure to prevent safety accidents involving outdoor advertisements during the summer rainy season. In particular, we plan to focus on inspecting old and high-risk fixed advertisements," adding, "Gyeonggi Province will continue to prioritize the safety management of outdoor advertisements as a top policy goal."
