German Chancellor Friedrich Merz sent a congratulatory message to President-elect Lee Jaemyung on June 10 (local time), just one week after Lee's election victory.
On this day, Chancellor Merz issued a press release through the Federal Government Press Office, stating, "I sincerely congratulate you on your inauguration as President," and added, "I wish you strength, success, and good fortune at this important time for Korea."
He also said, "Korea and Germany have long maintained a close partnership. Democracy, human rights, multilateralism, and free global trade are the foundation of our cooperation," and continued, "I look forward to working together to further strengthen this partnership."
