Over 100 Fabless Companies and AI Experts to Attend
Opening Ceremony for AimFuture Gwangju Branch Also Scheduled
In Gwangju, known as the "AI-centered city," more than 100 promising domestic and international fabless companies and AI experts will gather to discuss "Future Development Strategies for the Establishment of an AI Fabless Cluster."
On June 10, Gwangju City announced that it will hold the "Gwangju AI Fabless Cluster Cooperation Conference" on June 12 at the MX Studio on the 3rd floor of the Gwangju Realistic Content Cube (GCC).
The conference has been organized to strengthen the status of "Gwangju, the AI Demonstration City," and to accelerate the establishment of the AI Fabless Cluster, a core pillar of the AI semiconductor industry.
The conference will be chaired by Oh Sangjin, Head of the AI Industry Convergence Project Group. Presentations will include "Current Status and Prospects of the AI Semiconductor Industry" by Kim Kyungsoo, President of the Korea Fabless Industry Association, and "Future Development Strategies for the Establishment of the Gwangju AI Fabless Cluster" by Kang Hyunseo, Director of the Honam Regional Research Headquarters at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI).
Kang Hyunseo, Director of the ETRI Honam Regional Research Headquarters, emphasized the importance of on-device AI and the need for a fabless cluster, stating, "With the rapid increase in demand for AI semiconductors due to the spread of artificial intelligence, it is urgent to establish a cluster that enables the concentration and cooperation of fabless companies." He is scheduled to present Gwangju City's strategies for this initiative going forward.
In the subsequent panel discussion, participants will include Park Junkyu, CEO of ADTechnology, a design house company; Shin Dongjoo, CEO of Mobilint, a fabless company; Kim Jungwook, Vice President of DeepX, a fabless company; Kim Changsoo, CEO of AimFuture, an IP vendor; and Oh Yuseop, Head of the Korea Office of VeriSilicon. They will discuss the establishment of a fabless company cluster in Gwangju.
Choi Taejo, Director of the AI Industry Office, said, "Through this conference, Gwangju will reach a real turning point toward becoming a technology-based industrial city," and added, "We look forward to the active interest and participation of companies and citizens who will help shape the future of the AI semiconductor industry together."
Meanwhile, on the same day, the city will also host the "AI Fabless Cluster Hub in Gwangju, Alliance Colloquium" event. This event is co-hosted by Gwangju City, the Korea Fabless Industry Association, the Gwangju Information and Culture Industry Promotion Agency, the Gwangju AI Convergence Project Group, the ETRI Honam Regional Research Headquarters, and Gwangju Technopark.
The event has been organized to celebrate the opening of the Gwangju branch of AimFuture, the second fabless company to be attracted to Gwangju, and to solidify strategic cooperative relationships with key companies that will drive innovation in the semiconductor design sector as Gwangju becomes a hub for the AI Fabless Cluster.
In particular, at the event, Gwangju City and seven promising domestic and international fabless companies will sign business agreements. The participating fabless companies are WaveGlobal, NanoLink Technology, BOS Semiconductor, VeriSilicon Korea, Tenstorrent Korea, Bitry, and Itta Semiconductor.
The city plans to leverage the semiconductor design capabilities of these companies to promote technology development and commercialization in Gwangju, as well as to establish practical cooperation systems through joint research with local companies, professional workforce education, and recruitment.
