Kim Yongtae Seeks Support Outside the Assembly: "Party Reform Is a Matter of Survival, Not Choice"

Kim Yongtae Holds Meeting with Local Party Chapter Heads
"We Must Ignite the Spark of Change at the Front Lines in the Regions"

On June 10, Kim Yongtae, the interim leader of the People Power Party, met with local party chapter heads who are not members of the National Assembly and emphasized, "Change and reform are not a matter of choice, but of survival."

At a meeting with these local chapter heads held at the party's central headquarters in Yeouido that day, Kim stated, "We must pursue change and reform with a determination as if we are cutting through bone," reiterating his point.

Regarding the reasons for the party's defeat in the presidential election, Kim said, "As the ruling party, we failed to correct our course in time and ignored the problems. The declaration of martial law should never have happened, and the people expressed their shock and disappointment through their votes."

He continued, "Regrettably, we failed to prevent the rise of absolute power that threatens liberal democracy," diagnosing, "The responsibility lies with ourselves."

He went on to stress the need for the party to play a role in stopping the ruling party's runaway behavior and in protecting the free Republic of Korea.

Kim pointed out, "We must achieve a level of innovation that no one could have predicted, and at a pace that no one could have anticipated. If we fail to do so, the People Power Party will fade into the background of history."

Addressing the chapter heads, he urged, "The spark of change must be ignited not from the center, but from the regions. Please take the lead as catalysts for party reform at the front lines in each region and as bridges connecting the party and the people."

Kim added, "We do not have much time left. We must unite more desperately and urgently than ever before. Now is the time to make a decision."
