AMCHAM Discusses Korea-U.S. Economic Cooperation in Washington, D.C. ... First U.S. Visit Since Launch of New Administration

A delegation from the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) is visiting Washington, D.C. to discuss strengthening economic cooperation between South Korea and the United States following the launch of the new administration.

According to the business community on June 8, AMCHAM will hold its annual "Washington Doorknock" program in Washington, D.C. from June 10 to 12 (local time). The delegation is composed of key figures from various industries and is scheduled to meet with officials from the U.S. government, Congress, and think tanks to explore ways to enhance the Korea-U.S. economic partnership.

This visit is taking place immediately after President Lee Jaemyung's election victory, so changes in South Korea's policies and new directions for bilateral cooperation are expected to emerge as major agenda items.

AMCHAM has served as a bridge between the governments and businesses of both countries through the Doorknock event every year. This year as well, a wide range of cooperation measures for economic prosperity and the strengthening of shared future security are expected to be discussed.

Previously, in December of last year, President Lee met with AMCHAM officials, including Chairman James Kim, and stated, "The Korea-U.S. relationship will develop beyond a blood alliance into a comprehensive alliance."

In a recently released congratulatory statement on the election, AMCHAM said, "At a time when the Korean economy is poised for a turning point under new leadership, and with the launch of the Trump second administration, the Korea-U.S. relationship is reaching an important crossroads," adding, "We will further strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries and fulfill our role as a trusted economic partner."
