Joint Event by Daegu Regional Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs
and Palgongsan National Park Eastern Office
Belated weddings for couples who are national merit recipients, whose ceremonies had been postponed due to participation in the Korean War and the Vietnam War, were held in the forests of Palgongsan.
The Daegu Regional Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs (headed by Kim Jongsul) held a "Forest Wedding" on June 7 at the Palgongsan Gatbawi Native Plant Garden for three couples who are national merit recipients.
The wedding ceremony, organized by the Palgongsan National Park Eastern Office (headed by Jeong Jeongkwon), proceeded with dignity, following the order of reading the marriage vows, declaration of marriage, wedding photography, and a honeymoon (national park ecological tour). Around 60 family members, including children and grandchildren, attended as guests and offered their congratulations. In particular, interviews with the couples expressing their feelings and expectations for their wedding added a moving touch to the event.
Lee, a Korean War veteran who participated in the ceremony, said, "Although I had promised my wife that we would eventually hold a wedding ceremony, we kept postponing it. I am very happy that, thanks to the Palgongsan National Park Office and the Daegu Regional Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, we were finally able to have our wedding."
Kim Jongsul, head of the Daegu Regional Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, stated, "I deeply thank the Palgongsan National Park Eastern Office for giving our seniors such a meaningful memory during the Month of Patriots and Veterans. We will continue to promote 'Living Patriots and Veterans Affairs in Everyday Life, Patriots and Veterans Affairs for All,' honoring the dedication of merit recipients and supporting their happy later years in collaboration with the local community."
