Changwon Special City: Artist Ahn Jaeyoung Wins Grand Prize at 24th Moon Shin Art Award

Changwon Special City in South Gyeongsang Province successfully held the 24th Moon Shin Art Award Ceremony, an event honoring the artistic world and achievements of the world-renowned sculptor Moon Shin, as well as a special invitational exhibition by last year's award winner, Kim Moonkyu.

At the 24th Moon Shin Art Award Ceremony, held on June 5 at the Changwon Municipal Masan Moon Shin Art Museum, artist Ahn Jaeyoung received the grand prize, with over 100 distinguished guests in attendance to celebrate the award.

The grand prize winner receives a cash prize of 20 million won, the purchase of one artwork next year, and the opportunity to hold a solo invitational exhibition at the Moon Shin Art Museum.

The awardee, Ahn, is active in various fields as an artist, critic, curator, and film director. He is known for presenting an experimental artistic world without limitations on materials or genres, developing moments of objects with his own unique sensibility, and is actively engaged in both domestic and international art scenes.

Ahn Jaeyoung, an invited artist at the Korea Art Exhibition, graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti in Italy and Sungkyunkwan University. He has held 38 solo exhibitions and served as the artistic director of the Cheongju Craft Biennale in 2019.

On the same day, the opening ceremony for the "23rd Moon Shin Art Award Winner Kim Moonkyu Invitational Exhibition" was also held. The exhibition will run until August 24 in Exhibition Hall 2 of the Moon Shin Art Museum.

Jang Geumyong, Acting Mayor of Changwon Special City, stated, "This year marks the 30th anniversary of Moon Shin's passing, and it is very meaningful to hold the 24th Moon Shin Art Award Ceremony at the Moon Shin Art Museum, where the spirit of Moon Shin can be felt." He added, "Our city will continue to do its utmost to promote and support the Moon Shin Art Award, raising awareness of Moon Shin's artistic world and stature."
