Robert De Niro Stresses the Importance of Believing in Your Children
Voices Support for Transgender Daughter: "Unwavering Love"
Hollywood actor Robert De Niro (81) has drawn attention by sharing his parenting philosophy. He stated, "The most important thing is to support your children."
On June 5 (local time), the UK’s Daily Mail and US entertainment outlet Page Six reported that De Niro recently appeared on CBS’s entertainment news program 'Entertainment Tonight' and made these remarks.
De Niro said, "As long as they are not hurting themselves or engaging in destructive behavior, you have to believe in them and support them unconditionally." He added, "Children must know that their parents believe in them."
De Niro has seven children?three sons and four daughters?from two previous marriages. Six of his children are already adults.
He said, "Despite the age differences, I value my relationship with each of my children." He emphasized, "Each child is different, but every moment spent with them is always precious."
Last month, De Niro made headlines when he publicly expressed his unwavering love and support for his second daughter Erin, who recently came out as transgender and transitioned from male to female.
In a statement delivered to major media outlets, he said, "I loved and supported Erin as my son, and now I love and support her as my daughter."
Currently, De Niro is raising his two-year-old daughter Jia, whom he had later in life, with his girlfriend Tiffany Chen. He expressed his affection for his youngest daughter, saying, "Every moment with Jia is always special."
He mentioned that while he used to change his daughter’s diapers, he no longer does, saying, "That’s something Tiffany does excellently now."
In an interview with The Guardian, he explained, "I support Tiffany from the sidelines, but she is the one shouldering the real weight of parenting." He added, "We help each other, and that is very important."
