On June 6, President Lee Jaemyung ordered the prompt restoration of the budget for the Liberation Association that had been cut by the Yoon Sukyeol administration.
According to Presidential Office spokesperson Kang Yujeong, President Lee made this request after a participant expressed regret over the reduced budget for the Liberation Association while President Lee was leaving the Memorial Day ceremony at the Seoul National Cemetery in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, earlier that morning.
During last year's government budget planning process, the Liberation Association faced cuts to this year's budget, including a 600 million won reduction in the academic research category related to the liberation movement.
In response, Lee Jongchan, president of the Liberation Association, previously claimed that after the association criticized the appointment of Kim Hyungseok as director of the Independence Hall of Korea, New Right figures exerted pressure on the National Security Office through Kim Yonghyun, who was then the Chief of Presidential Security.
