Emphasizing "Strengthening Veterans Affairs" and "National Unity"
at the Memorial Day Ceremony
On June 6, Kim Tae-heum, Governor of South Chungcheong Province, stated, "Now that the new government has begun, it is time to set aside extreme partisan logic and achieve national unity," adding, "Strong Chungnam will serve as a catalyst for integration and a pillar for national development."
During the 70th Memorial Day ceremony held at the Chungnam Veterans Memorial Park that day, Governor Kim pledged, "I will devote myself to advancing the great nation bequeathed to us by our forebears until the very end." He emphasized, "The freedom and prosperity we enjoy today are the result of the blood, sweat, and tears of countless patriots and national defenders," and continued, "Chungnam Province will remember the noble sacrifices of our forebears who protected the nation, and we will carry on the spirit of patriotism and the history of national defense."
He went on to say, "Only when veterans are properly honored can we expect patriotic dedication from our citizens," stressing, "Chungnam Province is implementing effective veterans policies, including providing the highest level of honor allowances for veterans in the country, supporting the purchase of daily necessities for veterans' families, and abolishing the cap on medical expense support for descendants of independence patriots."
The province is also relocating and installing statues of nine prominent independence activists from the region, including Yu Gwan-sun, to the plaza of the Memorial Tower at the Veterans Memorial Park, and is remodeling the Chungnam Veterans Center to create a space that fosters pride.
In addition, the provincial government is focusing its administrative efforts on veterans affairs, including attracting a National Cemetery for Patriots and Veterans.
